What WayMechanic is
WayMechanic is a free directory that helps motorists find roadside mechanics nearby. We don't run ads and we don't sell personal data.
If you're looking for a mechanic
You don't need an account. When you allow location, your phone's position is used to search for mechanics near you; the coordinates are sent to our database to run the search but are not stored. Your last search results are saved on your own phone so they're available without signal. When you tap Call or WhatsApp we record that a tap happened (which mechanic, which button, when) so mechanics can see how many people contacted them — we don't record who you are or your number.
If you're a mechanic
You sign in with Google, which shares your name and email address with us. Your email is only used to sign you in and is never shown publicly. The listing you create — name, phone, WhatsApp number, address, map location, services and hours — is public, because its purpose is to let motorists contact you. You can edit or delete it at any time from your dashboard; deleting removes the listing and its contact statistics.
Services we use
Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in. Google provides sign-in. Map images are loaded by your browser from CARTO and OpenStreetMap. The site is hosted on our own server. Each of these receives the technical information needed to deliver its service, such as your IP address.
Cookies and storage
We use one cookie to remember your language, and your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to save your last search. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
